Network extensions and VPN tunnels explained

(Updated: )

Moonlock uses Apple’s modern Network Extension framework to run:

  1. VPN tunnels: Secure, encrypted connections that route your internet traffic safely through Moonlock’s private servers while keeping no track of your online and on-premises activity.
  2. Network Inspector: A system-level filter that monitors for suspicious or untrusted connections in real time.

Even when the master app is closed, these network extensions run outside of it to ensure low-latency performance and continuous protection. You can manage their permissions in System Settings > Network > VPN and Filters.
